NEW
YORK – Amtrak is once again teaming up with the communities it serves
throughout New York to spotlight the endless opportunities for travel
across the Empire State with the release of the fourth annual New York
By Rail® publication.
Not
including Amtrak’s busiest station, New York City’s Penn
Station, more than 1.5 million passengers traveled on Amtrak through
New York State last year, including the Hudson Valley region, Western
and Central New York and the Adirondack region. New York By Rail is the
resource a visitor needs to make the most of their travel experience
through the state. User-friendly information about getting around each
destination makes it easy for anyone to take off on a day or weekend
trip and is an indispensable tool for planning a full vacation touring
New York State.
“This guide
has proven as a valuable resource for New York residents
and visitors alike,” said Mike DeCataldo, General Superintendent, and
Northeast Division. “Our partnership with the New York State Department
of Agriculture and Markets and its contribution to this year’s
publication has certainly enhanced our efforts to both inform our
passengers about the travel and vacationing options in the Empire
Region, and how reaching these destinations by riding Amtrak is now
easier than ever.”
This year’s
New York By Rail guide features for the first time a
special supplement from New York State’s Department of Agriculture and
Markets. This insert gives visitors options to explore rural New York
and its numerous intriguing destinations that showcase the state’s
thriving agricultural activities. New York State Agriculture
Commissioner Patrick Hooker said, “Working together with Amtrak, we
invite you to visit New York’s vast countryside. With agriculture
occupying more than a quarter of the state’s total land mass, there is
plenty to see and do. From dairy farms to apple orchards, vineyards,
farmers’ markets, country fairs and corn mazes- New York agriculture
has something for everyone. “
The 2007
edition of New York By Rail is now available at Amtrak
Stations, on board Amtrak trains operating throughout New York State
and participating travel agents, tour operators, New York information
centers, as well as hotels and attractions near Amtrak stations. Amtrak
customers may also request one when purchasing their tickets at
Amtrak.com or 1-800-USA-RAIL.
