Traditional
Cream of Wheat
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon salt
4½ cups boiling water
3/4 cup cream of wheat
Makes 6 servings.
Preparation:
- Add the salt to the boiling
water, and when it bubbles sift in the
cream
of wheat through the fingers, stirring rapidly to prevent the formation
of lumps.
- Cook directly over the heat for
a few minutes until it thickens; then
place it in a double boiler and cook for about 1 hour.
- Serve hot with
cream or milk and sugar.
NOTE: Cream of wheat made
according to this old fashioned recipe is a very good traditional
breakfast dish.

maize (784 million tons) and rice (651 million tons).
Wheat grain is a staple food used to make flour for leavened, flat and
steamed breads, biscuits, cookies, cakes, breakfast cereal, pasta,
noodles, couscous and for fermentation to make beer, alcohol, vodka, or
biofuel.
Wheat is planted to a limited extent as a forage crop for livestock,
and the straw can be used as fodder for livestock or as a construction
material for roofing thatch.
